What is The Tower House?
The Tower House, built in 1892, is a historic Queen Anne Victorian building located in the heart of Cumberland, Wisconsin. Once a beloved Italian restaurant and tavern, this local icon is being reimagined for a new chapter. Beginning in Summer 2025, The Tower House will be home to five unique businesses: Lightning Bolt Coffee, Lightning Bolt Lounge, Advanced Sportswear – Cumberland, WI, The Tower House Events, and The Tower House Suites.

Who are the new owners?
Dan and Rachel Smoot are thrilled to take on their newest venture as the owners of The Tower House. With deep ties to the area through their nearby cabin and years of family memories in Cumberland, they’re excited to invest in the community in a meaningful way. Dan and Rachel own Advanced Sportswear in Newport, MN, and are bringing their entrepreneurial spirit to this historic space.
Together with their three children—Abby, Will, and Emmet—the Smoots are reimagining The Tower House while honoring its legacy. Abby Smoot will be leading all day-to-day efforts, marketing initiatives and managing business operations. The Smoot family’s vision is to create a vibrant, eclectic space that brings people together and celebrates the charm of Cumberland.
When will you be open?
We are open 6 days a week and will be transitioning to our extended summer hours beginning May 18th, 2026.
